Standards Australia
Supersedes: AS 1860-1976 Installation of particleboard flooring
Superseded by: AS 1860-1998 Installation of particleboard flooring
The revision was undertaken to provide minimum requirements for the installation of particleboard flooring that are acceptable to building authorities in Australia. This has resulted in changes to style, format and expression, which accommodate current Standards Australia practice, and includes the following:
(a) Greater emphasis on subfloor ventilation requirements is included in Appendix B.
(b) Introduction of two flooring treatments, fungicide treated (FT) and termiticide treated (TT).
(c) Reference to Flooring Class 1 and 2 has been deleted from this edition.
(d) Mechanical properties of particleboard flooring are specified in AS 1859.
In the preparation of this Standard cognizance was taken of current building practices and technology.
First published as AS 1860-1976. Second edition 1991.
This Standard sets out procedures for the selection, placement and fixing of particleboard flooring complying with AS 1859.
This Standard does not cover waterproofing procedures necessary for wet area rooms, which are covered by AS 3740.
NOTE: For confirmation of selection, placement and Fixing procedures consult the appropriate authority (engineer, architect or advisory organization).
