AS 1668.2-1976 SAA Mechanical ventilation and air conditioning code, Part 2: Ventilation requirements
Standards Australia
This part deals with the ventilation requirements for public health and safety for mechanical ventilation and air conditioning of buildings. Part 1covers requirements for fire precautions in buildings with air-handling systems.
The range of air flow requirements for different occupancies recommended by various professional bodies and regulatory authorities throughout the world varies considerably. This part of the code specifies the minimum air flow requirements for ventilation for a large number of types and occupancies of buildings, but this list is by no means complete.
The information contained in ASHRAE* Standard No 62-1973 has been largely drawn upon in compiling the lists of minimum flow rates for various occupancies, and current regulations applicable in the variousAustralian States and cities have been considered.
The minimum air flow requirements for special. types of occupancy such as electrical substations and switch rooms, hospital enclosures and industrial applications are not included in this part of the code. The committee also recognizes the need for requirements for natural ventilation because of the frequent simultaneous occurrence of natural and mechanical ventilation systems in different parts of a building. These aspects are being studied and will be considered for inclusion later in the code.
This Part of these Rules applies to air-handling systems for mechanical ventilation or air conditioning of indoor enclosures, where such method of control of indoor environment is required by the Regulatory Authority or is approved as an alternative provision to natural ventilation.
