This Certifier Practice Standard is prepared by the Commissioner for Fair Trading under section 14 of the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018 (B&DC Act); Section 14 provides that a registered certifier’s conditions of registration may require the certifier to carry out certification work in accordance with specified standards or methodologies prepared by the Commissioner.

The Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 and Design and Building Practitioners Regulation 2021 (the DBP legislation) were established to raise the standards of building design and building work.

This note has been issued by the NSW Building Commissioner, David Chandler OAM, and the Chair of the Cladding Taskforce, John Tansey to provide information for builders, developers and owners corporations who are undertaking building work involving cladding rectification in residential apartments buildings (class 2 buildings).

These are Guidelines issued by the Secretary of the Department of Customer Service (the Secretary), under Schedule 3 of the Design and Building Practitioners Regulation 2021.

From 1 July 2021, Design and Building Practitioners working on class 2 buildings need to register under a new Compliance Declaration Scheme.

Under these changes, designs, declarations and other documents must be lodged on the NSW Planning Portal at key stages throughout the construction process.

There are 18 classes of registration for Design Practitioners, select from the list to review the eligibility criteria and determine which class you should apply for.
