This document specifies requirements for the design and installation of sanitary plumbing and drainage from fixtures to a sewer, common effluent system or an on-site wastewater management system. It applies to new installations as well as alterations, additions or repairs to existing installations. It does not apply to the pre-treatment of trade wastes.

This Certifier Practice Standard is prepared by the Commissioner for Fair Trading under section 14 of the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018 (B&DC Act); Section 14 provides that a registered certifier’s conditions of registration may require the certifier to carry out certification work in accordance with specified standards or methodologies prepared by the Commissioner.

This Guide is intended to supplement to the "Criteria for the Passive House, EnerPHit and PHI Low Energy Building Standards" ("Criteria") published by the Passive House Institute and posted online; it explains the Criteria's requirements given here in a brief and precise manner.
